Building responsibly

The environmental, social and governance commitment that guides every project we sign.

The responsibility of an architecture practice does not end at the drawing. It begins with the decisions taken at preliminary design — what is kept, what is built, with which materials — and carries on into how we run the studio.

We take that commitment on two fronts we consider inseparable: the performance of what we design and the way we operate as a team. It is not a document running alongside the project, it is the criterion by which we judge every decision — from the first sketch to site supervision — and the basis of the relationship we build with clients, partners and community.

PILLARS

The three pillars

Environmental

A commitment to the environmental performance of what is built, from preliminary design through to construction.

  • Energy efficiency built in from preliminary design
  • Materials with a lower carbon footprint and a controlled source
  • Passive systems: natural ventilation, shading and solar orientation
  • Refurbishment as the preferred alternative to new build

Social

Architecture has a direct impact on the people who live in and pass through the spaces we design.

  • The quality of urban and housing space in local communities
  • Universal accessibility as a design requirement, not an add-on
  • Continuing training and development of the in-house team
  • Partnerships with universities and hosting professional placements
  • A contribution to Espinho and to the Norte region

Governance

Procedural rigour and transparency throughout the relationship with clients and partners.

  • Full and transparent visibility of the project for the client
  • Professional ethics and strict regulatory compliance
  • A data protection and privacy policy compliant with the GDPR
  • Long-term relationships with local suppliers and partners

Commitments

What we commit to

Refurbish before building

Give priority to intervening in the existing stock whenever the brief and the state of repair allow it.

Performance from preliminary design

Energy efficiency decisions are taken at concept stage, not corrected at the end.

Accessibility as the baseline

Every project is designed to be crossed by anyone, whatever their mobility.

A conscious office

Steadily reducing the use of paper, energy and unnecessary travel.

The responsibility of a project begins before the first line.
